One contractor was killed and another was injured in a shooting at a DeKalb County motel Thursday morning, police said.

Both men were working when the shots rang out at the Oyo Hotel on Wesley Club Drive, which is just south of I-20.

Officers were called to the motel just before 9:30 a.m., DeKalb County police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer said from the scene. They found one man dead and another in critical condition. The injured contractor is being treated at a local hospital.

Details about the victims, including their names and the company that employed them, have not been released.

Police said they may have been targeted.

“We don’t know why they were targeted right now,” Spencer said. “Investigators are reviewing surveillance video and speaking to witnesses.”

No one is in custody in connection with the shooting, although detectives believe there are two suspects who left the scene in a vehicle.

“We are not releasing their information right now,” Spencer said. “We want to have some more information before we put out any details on the suspects.”

The parking lot is blocked off with crime scene tape while investigators are on scene.

“These suspects showed that they had no respect for life shooting these individuals the way they did,” Spencer said. “We're looking to catch them as soon as possible.”
