Police are investigating a shootout that left a man dead outside a DeKalb County gas station.

Fifteen shell casings were found near Lawrence Allison’s body.

DeKalb County police found Allison, 32, lying on his back between pumps at the Chevron gas station on the 4700 block of Redan Road just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses told police Allison had been shot in the chest by a man he’d been arguing with, according to a police report.

“After the victim falls, the suspect runs away,” DeKalb police Lt. Lonzy Robertson said. “A third party begins to fire at the suspect as he is fleeing.”

It was not clear if the gunman was injured.

Officers canvased the area, but there were no signs of the suspect, who was last seen wearing a black hoodie with black shorts and shoes.

Authorities have not indicated what caused the dispute.

Police are looking at footage from the gas station for any leads.
