Atlanta police are investigating human remains found in northwest Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers found multiple bones in the 700 block of Wheeler Street, Atlanta police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown said. She said a construction crew found skeletal remains in a heavily wooded area near a dead-end street.

Brown said it is classified as a “death investigation,” and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday they haven’t been able to identify the remains so far.

“It is highly unlikely we will ever be able to identify them,” an investigator told AJC.com.
