A deadly double shooting at the Fairway View Apartments on Club Drive was just the first homicide Gwinnett County police investigated Thursday night.

Before Gwinnett County homicide detectives could clear one scene Thursday night, a second deadly shooting took place in the same county.

The first shooting was reported to police about 8 p.m. A man was killed and a woman was seriously injured by the gunfire at the Fairway View Apartments on Club Drive, according to investigators.

Responding officers attempted first aid on the man, but he died at the scene, Gwinnett police said. The woman is being treated for life-threatening injuries at a hospital.

They were identified Friday as Derek Whiteside, 30, and Evelyn Chairse, 33, both of Lawrenceville.

A suspect, 32-year-old Voneric Hill of Lawrenceville, was also injured and was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. He was released Friday morning and arrested on a single count of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault, according to police.

“The incident resulted (from) a dispute between family members that escalated into violence,” police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said in a news release. “Specifics of the dispute are not being released at this time.”

Detectives were not looking for any other suspects.

Just before 9 p.m., police were called to a second deadly shooting in the county.

A woman found her family member unconscious inside a house off Lockridge Lane in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The victim, identified Friday as 26-year-old Samir Nakic, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound, police said.

Homicide detectives are still working to determine what led to the man’s death, but police said no suspects have been identified.

A group of concerned friends gathered outside of the home, and detectives are interviewing them.

The two deadly shootings appear to be unrelated.
