A man is in custody after a SWAT situation in Milton lasted more than three hours, authorities said.

Nikolas Alexander Cole, 23, faces aggravated assault and criminal damage to property charges after allegedly firing several gunshots at another man outside his home near Freemanville Road on Thursday, Milton city spokeswoman Jennifer Hartwig said.

While the standoff was active, Freemanville Road was blocked between Birmingham Drive and Dartmouth Drive in Milton.

The man told police the incident began with an argument, and he briefly left the house. When he returned to get some of his personal belongings, Cole allegedly began to shoot at him multiple times, hitting his vehicle.

The person who was shot at was not hurt and called police after the incident, Hartwig said.

Officers tried to speak with Cole, but he wouldn’t leave the house, so a SWAT team was called, she said. About 9 p.m., Cole surrendered to authorities peacefully.
