Pedestrians ran for cover when a gunman opened fire and shot a man Monday on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard near The Mall West End, officials said.

The man who was shot was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“We have not been advised on the severity of the injuries,” Atlanta police Officer Donald T. Hannah said.

Witnesses told the news station they couldn’t believe more people weren’t hit when as many as four or five shots rang out.

Kelan Freeman told Channel 2 this sort of thing happens all the time. He said he saw the shooter pull out a gun and shoot the man in the leg.

This year, there have been at least two other shootings near the same location.

In March, gunfire erupted outside the mall after alleged gang members argued over a substance in a bag, Atlanta police Sgt. Warren Pickard said at the time. Two men and a woman were shot. One of the men was shot in the head. Everyone survived.

In February, a man was shot in the stomach outside the mall. Three men were seen running toward a nearby MARTA station.
