Police are looking for a gunman accused of shooting and killing a man outside a Union City apartment complex Sunday night.

Officers responding to the Shannon Chase Apartment complex about 9:20 p.m. found the man unresponsive outside one of the units. He was identified by police as 25-year-old Marcellus Vaughn of Fairburn.

Someone at the complex, located in the 5300 block of Ga. 138, called police after hearing gunshots.

“Witnesses on site advised the situation originated from a verbal altercation that turned physical,” Union City police investigator Jerald January said in a statement.

Investigators have taken out an arrest warrant for the alleged shooter, Demetrius Spratlin of Atlanta. Spratlin was last seen driving a white 2015 Nissan work van with black mirrors and bumpers, according to police.

He is thought to be armed and dangerous, January said.

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on the shooting or Spratlin’s whereabouts should contact Union City Detective G. Nelson at 770-515-7835 or call 911.
