Clayton County police responded to the shooting at the Gateway at Hartsfield Apartments just before 3:45 a.m., agency spokesman Officer David Portis said in a statement. The complex is located in the 800 block of Garden Walk Boulevard in the northern part of the county, about two miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

A man coming home saw the body lying on the ground in the parking lot, called 911 and attempted to perform CPR, police said.

The victim died on the scene.
