A man was critically injured Tuesday in an attack at a downtown Atlanta home.

Shortly after 7 a.m., Atlanta police officers responded to reports of an assault at the residence in the 400 block of Centennial Olympic Park Drive.

“Officers found a 69-year-old white male who had suffered severe injuries to his face and head lying in the doorway of the home,” police said Wednesday in a statement.

The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

“APD’s Homicide Unit was called in to handle the case, given the severity of the injuries,” police said in the statement. “The investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
