A five-hour standoff involving the Gwinnett County SWAT team came to a “peaceful resolution” and the man is in custody, police told Channel 2 Action News.

Officers were on the scene Tuesday in Buford as the man, identified as Stephen Morgan, 29, barricaded himself inside the home on Tuggle Road near West Rock Quarry Road, police spokesman Wilbert Rundles said.

The home is near Phillips State Prison.

The SWAT team shot canisters into the house and eventually convinced Morgan to come out peacefully, Channel 2 reported.

There was a domestic situation at the house Monday night and Morgan allegedly threatened officers, Channel 2 reported.

Officers returned Tuesday with warrants, leading to the confrontation.

“He had done more than lock the doors,” Rundles told Channel 2. “He had placed some things in front of it and barricaded himself in the house. Some structures needed to be moved out of the way.”

Morgan is charged with simple battery/family violence and willful obstruction of law enforcement, according to Shannon Volkodav, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.
