GBI investigating fatal officer-involved shooting in Loganville

The GBI is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon in a Loganville shopping center, authorities said.

Aigon Andrew Wallace, 25, was killed after he allegedly tried to flee from police and pulled out a knife on an officer, GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said.

The agency said Wallace was wanted on charges of  kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated stalking. Two Braselton police officers were trying to track him down near the Kroger shopping center at Ga. 78 and Rosebud Road just before 3 p.m., Ammons said.

The officers spotted the man’s car in the parking lot and made contact with him, Ammons said.

Wallace tried to run away and resisted arrest, she said. An officer tackled him, and during the altercation Wallace tried to draw two knives from his pockets, Ammons said.

An officer pulled out his gun and fired at the man, Ammons said. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died from his wound. Two knives were found at the scene, she said.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The incident marks the 48th officer-involved shooting the GBI has been asked to investigate this year.
