Lithonia High School and Marbut Theme School were on lockdown Monday afternoon while police investigated the incident in the 2000 block of Cherokee Valley Drive, DeKalb police said.
“There was no one shot or shot at,” DeKalb police spokesman Maj. Stephen Fore said. “Someone reported a neighbor discharge a firearm in their backyard.”
A gunman was holed up in a home at that location, more than a mile from the schools. Fore said police secured the perimeter around the home and a man came out without incident.
Police are not sure what led the gun to discharge. No one was injured in the incident.
No other details were released.
