Clayton County police are not sure what led to a shooting in an Aldi’s parking lot that killed David Gibbs.

And without any suspects, they may not find out anytime soon.

What they do know is Gibbs, 23, was seen inside a car with an “unknown number of males” and may have been involved in an altercation.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. Thursday  in the parking lot of the Aldi in the 5800 block of Riverdale Road near College Park, Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

Gibbs was found in the back seat of a car in the parking lot with no signs of life, Marbury said.

Witnesses told police the men fled from the car after it crashed into a parked car. Police are searching for the driver of that car.

Several casings were found in the parking lot as police worked to piece together what exactly led to the shooting.

No other details were released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Clayton County police. Tipsters can also remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting crimestoppersatlanta.org.
