A man was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Walton County.

An “erratic” 26-year-old man was shot and killed by a deputy and a family member was also hit during a reported family disturbance in Walton County, GBI officials confirmed Tuesday.

Chavius Hollis died at the 7-acre home in the 3700 block of Lovers Lane in Monroe, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said in a news conference. She said Hollis’ family called 911 with their concerns about him.

Four adults and a baby left the home before Walton County sheriff’s deputies arrived, and one family member entered the home with Capt. Scott Whisnant to try to calm Hollis down, Miles said.

Hollis raised his gun during the encounter and shot his family member in the leg before Whisnant fatally shot him, Miles said in a news release.

The family member is in stable condition. No deputies were injured.
