A Lyft driver was shot by her passenger Monday morning outside a DeKalb County convenience store, police said.

The driver arrived to pick up her passenger shortly after midnight. She was shot when they stopped at a Citgo convenience store at the corner of Rockbridge and Hairston roads, according to DeKalb County police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent.

“The suspect attempted to rob her before firing shots,” she said in an emailed statement.

The 25-year-old woman, who has not been identified by police, tried to drive away, but she did not make it very far. Police arriving at the scene found her silver sedan on an embankment across Hairston Road, Channel 2 Action News reported.

An officer at the scene told the news station the woman was shot twice in the back.

She was taken to a hospital and was in serious condition but stable as of Monday afternoon, police said.

The investigation continues.
