Man killed in SW Atlanta double shooting

Sept 7, 2019

One man was killed and another was injured in a double shooting in southwest Atlanta on Friday night, police said.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Pope Street just before 10 p.m. to find a man who had been shot in his foot and thigh, Atlanta police said.

Officers applied a tourniquet, and an ambulance took him to Grady Memorial Hospital. His injuries were non-life-threatening and he was described as stable, police said.

A second gunshot victim was dropped off at the hospital in a private car, but he later died, police said.

Investigators believe the two men were shot while helping a female family member who was fighting another woman, Atlanta police spokesman Anthony White said Saturday.

As they got involved in the scuffle, someone pulled out a rifle and shot both men, he said.

Police have not released the names of the men it’s unclear whether any arrests have been made in the case.
