A bomb squad unit with the Atlanta police retrieved a grenade from a returned rental car in Buckhead, according to officials.

The grenade was found inside a silver Ford Edge at a Hertz rental car facility in the 3000 block of Peachtree Road, Atlanta police said.

“Our SWAT team took … is in the process of testing it to determine if it contains explosive material,” Officer Jarius Daugherty said Tuesday in an emailed statement. “In the meantime, the investigation continues into how the device got into the rental car, to whom it belongs and whether any charges would be forthcoming.”

Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution, Brown said.
