A badly decomposed body was found Tuesday night in the Chattahoochee River near Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in northwest Atlanta, according to police.

“The preliminary investigation is not showing signs of foul play,” Atlanta police Officer Stephanie Brown said.

The body was found about 9:30 p.m. and is believed to be that of a man, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Officials have not said how they learned about the body or how long it had been in the river.

“At this time, we cannot confirm the age and race of the individual,” Brown said. “The cause of death is pending an autopsy report. The investigation continues.”
