A man has died five days after he was critically injured in a shooting that also killed a southwest Atlanta grocery store owner.

Rizanul Islam died Thursday from his injuries, Atlanta police Officer Stephanie Brown said Friday morning.

The incident happened Sunday outside Southern Grocery in the 1000 block of Westview Drive.

Saiful Bhuyia, 36, of Dunwoody, died in his car, police said. Islam was his passenger.

The deadly shooting sparked protest from community members worried about violence in the area, which is near M. Agnes Jones Elementary School.

Seven years ago, Baik Sung, the owner of a similarly named grocery store at the corner of Westview Drive and Lawton Street, was stabbed repeatedly during an apparent robbery attempt.

Atlanta City Councilmember Cleta Winslow, whose district includes the store, told Channel 2 Action News she would support a plan to close the business permanently.

No arrests have been made in the shooting.
