Boxer Vernon Forrest’s killer convicted after 7 years

Seven years after a local boxing great was shot and killed during an armed robbery, a jury has now convicted the shooter of murder, Channel 2 Action News reported Monday.

Charmon Sinkfield faces the death penalty in the July 2009 murder of boxer Vernon Forrest during a robbery outside a gas station along Whitehall Street.

Two other men — Demario Crews, the getaway driver, and Jquante Ware, the armed robber — were convicted of their crimes in 2009 and 2012 respectively.

The are serving life sentences.
