An Augusta man is behind bars after allegedly shooting and killing an 82-year-old blind woman and then taking an Xbox from her home, authorities said.

The incident occurred Oct. 15 at a home in the 2000 block of Kennedy Drive, the Augusta Chronicle reported.

Andrew Renard Dawson, 22, was arrested Thursday and charged with the murder of Elizabeth Thompson, who police say was shot in the chest. Dawson is also charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, Richmond County jail records show.

According to the Chronicle, a man who lived at the home with Thompson called police two days after the woman’s death to report that his Xbox and a memory card were missing from his room.

The items are valued at about $550, the newspaper reported.

Dawson is being held at the Richmond County jail without bond.
