A southeast Atlanta woman was shot twice late Monday during an attempted robbery in her own front yard, police said.

The woman told Atlanta police that, around 11:30 p.m., she was walking to her Oak Drive home after getting off a MARTA bus at a nearby stop. Two men approached her in her yard and “demanded her belongings,” police spokesman Sgt. Gregory Lyon said.

“The victim tried to explain to the robbers that she didn’t have anything,” Lyon said, “and that’s when one of them shot her in the stomach. While she was on the ground she was shot again in the back.”

The suspects ran away, police said, and the victim was able to walk to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made.
