An Atlanta man has been jailed without bond in Hall County after authorities said he threatened to rob an acquaintance at gunpoint and fatally shot the victim’s dog.

Dayvon A. Daye, 27, was booked into the county jail on Friday, sheriff’s spokesman Derreck Booth said Thursday in a statement. Daye is charged with armed robbery and aggravated animal cruelty.

On Feb. 16, deputies responded to the 3800 block of Berkshire Ridge Drive, Booth said.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, said the suspect came to his home about 1 a.m. and demanded money via an online transfer, according to the sheriff’s office.

“When the victim couldn’t get the money transfer to work, the suspect took the victim’s cellphone,” Booth said.

The victim ran to get help and heard gunshots. The suspect left the scene.

“When the victim returned to his home with law enforcement, they discovered that his dog had been shot,” Booth said. “The dog later died.”

Investigators confirmed the suspect’s identity and learned in late February that Daye was in the Gwinnett County Detention Center on unrelated charges. He was transferred to Hall County.
