Sheriff Robert Holland told the Athens Banner-Herald that Jewell was caught up in a monthslong drug investigation conducted by his office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
There were children inside the house at the time of the arrest, so Holland told the newspaper his deputies took “extra precautions” before making entry into the residence.
Jewell faces two counts of heroin trafficking and one count of maintaining a dwelling for the distribution of a controlled substance, the sheriff’s office said.
Further arrests are expected. AJC.com has reached out to the sheriff’s office for more information about this investigation and Jewell’s custody.
