Three people are in custody more than a week after shots were fired at officers during an attempted robbery at a Conyers jewelry store.
An alleged robber and an accomplice opened fire about 8 p.m. Sept. 19 while running away from Kay Jewelers in a shopping center near the I-20 and Ga. 138 interchange, Conyers police Sgt. Kim Lucas told AJC.com.
The rounds missed their targets and no one was injured.
When officers responded to the store, they found a female employee struggling with a gunman in the back. The gunman took off running and met up with the accomplice in a wooded area, according to police.

Following the robbery attempt, authorities located a vehicle the suspects left behind, Lucas said. That discovery led to the identification of suspects Vondrakes Green and Anthony McNear, who have extensive criminal histories and are persons of interest in a variety of crimes throughout metro Atlanta, according to police.
“In that vehicle we located robbery and burglary tools as well as two pistols and two long guns,” Lucas said.
Warrants were taken out for their arrests and a lookout was issued for McNear’s vehicle.
When Henry County police spotted the vehicle Thursday, Lucas said Green and Anna DeLaCruz ran. They were ultimately apprehended. McNear was found in a hotel room where the trio had been staying.
Multiple firearms were found in the car and hundreds of rounds of ammunition and narcotics were found in the room, according to police.
According to police, DeLaCruz aided in Green’s getaway after the attempted robbery. McNear’s role is unclear.
All were booked in the county jail on unspecified charges.
