Four Cobb County residents are sitting in the Cherokee County jail after allegedly luring two people to an Acworth apartment and robbing them at gunpoint, authorities said.
The alleged victims told deputies a woman they met at a party invited them to hang out at the Cherokee Summit apartments Tuesday evening, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker said.
When they arrived, three men they’d never seen before allegedly pulled guns and robbed them at gunpoint, stealing a cellphone, a pair of sneakers, a wallet with cash and some headphones, Baker said.
Detectives were given descriptions of the men and woman who invited them to the apartment, and deputies went to the complex in unincorporated Acworth.
When they arrived, they saw a man who matched the description of one of the suspects standing outside the apartment, Baker said.
Deputies surrounded the building and were able to identify the woman who invited the victims over, Baker said.
Two men tried to escape off the porch but returned inside after seeing a deputy out there, authorities said. While speaking with the suspects, deputies noticed one of the men was wearing a pair of shoes like the ones reported stolen.
The apartment was searched and authorities recovered a loaded .22 caliber rifle with silencer and a .40 caliber handgun, Baker said. They also found a wallet in a trashcan that contained several cards with the victim’s name, he said. The cellphone and headphones were also recovered.
Four suspects were arrested: 17-year-old Doriean McElhney of Marietta, 19-year-old Ajani Harris of Powder Springs, 18-year-old Jayden Hickman of Marietta and 19-year-old Rachel Marek of Kennesaw.
McElhney, Harris and Hickman face two counts each of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and one count each of theft by receiving stolen property, misdemeanor marijuana possession and tampering with evidence, jail records show. Marek faces two counts of armed robbery.
Five teenagers were arrested in Cobb County last month after a similar incident occurred at a home near Powder Springs.
All four suspects charged in Tuesday’s robbery are being held at the Cherokee County jail without bond.
