More than seven months after a woman was shot and killed while driving in southwest Atlanta, police have arrested the person they believe killed her.
Darien Sherry of Riverdale was arrested Wednesday on a murder charge, according to Fulton County jail records. He allegedly shot Shanna Smith twice in the head while she was in her BMW on Aug. 4 near Hadlock Street and Leslie Avenue.
Police have not released details on how Sherry was captured or what led to his arrest.

Officers found Smith after getting a call about a car on fire in a wood line near Leslie Avenue. Smith, 24, was slumped over the steering wheel of her car, which was wedged between trees and shrubbery, police said.
Her foot was still on the accelerator and the wheels were spinning, causing smoke. Three different weapons and 25 shell casings were found near the scene, but at the time of the shooting, police weren’t sure if she was targeted or caught in crossfire.
Smith was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died.
Sherry is being held in the Fulton County jail.
