A Marietta man is accused of vehicular homicide and DUI after one of his passengers was killed in a crash Sunday night.

Javier Alvarado-Castro, 39, was traveling southbound on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna in a Mercury Grand Marquis when he swerved into the northbound lanes and struck a Honda Pilot, according to Cobb County police.

One of the passengers in the Grand Marquis, Javier Alvarado, 62, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and later died, police said.

The driver of the Honda, Stephen Gilchrist, 58, of Woodstock, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Alvarado-Castro was arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI and failure to maintain lane.
