DeKalb County police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 4-year-old last month in East Atlanta.

Jaquavious Landers was riding his Big Wheel outside his Flat Shoals Road apartment when he as struck by a stray bullet. Billy Malcom, arrested Monday, was not the shooter, DeKalb police told Channel 2 Action News.

But in late December, they obtained an arrest warrant for Malcom, 31, who investigators say was involved in an armed robbery that precipitated the shooting of Jaquavious. He was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Police are still looking for other suspects. Jaquavious survived the shooting but lost use of his spleen and underwent several surgeries.

Detectives told Channel 2 they believe Malcom led them on a high-speed chase Dec. 28 that resulted in a crash. Malcom fled the wreckage, leaving his 1-year-old son and female passenger behind, police said.
