Alpharetta police are investigating the death of an inmate at the north annex of the Fulton County jail.

Police say the death Friday of Jeremiah Matthis, 36, of Atlanta, apparently was a suicide, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“No foul play is suspected and it appears the deceased took his own life in his jail cell,” police said in a statement. “When found, the deceased was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital where he died.”

Fulton County sheriff’s spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan added, “It is our policy not to comment regarding ongoing investigations and cases being handled by other agencies.”
