A man who allegedly shot two Boston police officers Wednesday night has a connection to metro Atlanta, officials said.

Kirk Figueroa, 33, is a former Cobb County resident who pleaded guilty in 2010 to burning his own vehicle, according to Cobb sheriff’s office records.

About 11 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call about Figueroa threatening his roommate with a knife, police Commissioner William Evans told The Associated Press.

Two officers entered the home and were shot by Figueroa, who was then shot and killed by other officers, Evans said. Figueroa didn’t have a Massachusetts gun license, police said.

The wounded officers were Richard Cintolo, a 27-year veteran, and Matt Morris, a 12-year veteran. Both had surgery and were recovering, Evans said.

Police shootings have been increasingly in the national spotlight. Just last week, officers in Palm Springs, Calif., were killed after they responded to a domestic disturbance.
