Former University of Alabama running back Tyren Jones is facing felony assault charges after being accused of striking two people with a handgun in Smyrna.

Jones, who starred in football at Walton High School in east Cobb County, was arrested Friday after allegedly hitting Erica Magee in the back of the head multiple times with a 9mm handgun, according to a warrant.

Magee was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for a large bruise.

Jones also allegedly attacked Ernest Dents with the same gun moments later. According to the warrant, Jones dropped the gun, picked it up and racked it as he approached Dents and asked, “Do you want to die?”

Jones then allegedly struck Dents, cutting his left ear and head as the gun discharged.

The warrant states Jones is also charged with possession of more than 23 grams of marijuana, which police say they found in his car.

He was released from the Cobb County jail on a $35,000 bond, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

Jones had 36 carries for 224 yards and two touchdowns during the 2014 season. He was dismissed from the Crimson Tide’s roster in March 2015 after being suspended on marijuana possession charges.

He transferred to Hutchinson Community College in Kansas to play the 2015 season.
