An 8-year-old girl is facing three charges after she allegedly tried to stab her teacher with a broken pencil in Cherokee County, officials said.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the girl, who was not identified, flipped her desk Oct. 26 before allegedly attacking the teacher at Cherokee Charter Academy in Canton.

“Mainly those charges were to bring her into the system, not necessarily punitive or to punish her,” Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jay Baker told the news station.

She faces charges of unruly child, simple assault and simple battery, according to Channel 2.

There have been 14 emergency calls in the past two years at the K-8 charter school.
