A Gwinnett County woman was allegedly driving drunk at more than twice the speed limit when she caused a September crash that killed two people, according to her arrest warrants.

Jessica Jean Peterson, 27, of Buford, was arrested Saturday morning and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, speeding and reckless driving, Gwinnett jail records showed. Peterson also was charged with two counts of child endangerment for allegedly having two children in the car at the time of the crash, arrest warrants stated.

On Sept. 14 around 2:15 a.m., Peterson was allegedly driving 91 mph in a 45-mph zone on Buford Highway when she ran a stop sign at the intersection with Garnett Street in Buford, according to police. Peterson was driving a Pontiac Grand Am when she hit the driver’s side of a Daewoo Lanos being driven by Brandon Charles Pellien of Sugar Hill. Pellien, 29, and a passenger, 48-year-old Steven Barco of Buford, both died at the scene.

At the time of the crash, Peterson’s blood-alcohol content was .147, her arrest warrants state.

A 9-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl in Peterson’s car were both transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite with non-life threatening injuries, police said the day after the crash. Another adult was also in the Pontiac but was not injured.

Peterson was booked into the Gwinnett jail at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, booking record showed. She was released around 6:30 p.m. after posting $38,045 bond.
