The Atlanta fire Hazmat team was sent to a West End bank Wednesday morning after a suspicious powder was discovered on a cash machine, but the powder turned out to be harmless.

The powder was noticed shortly after 8 a.m. at the Wells Fargo branch in the 600 block of Lee Street, according to Atlanta fire Capt. Derek Harris.

After donning suits for respiratory and splash protection, firefighters moved in to examine the powder.

“We identified it with spectral analysis and determined it to be benign, just a typical corn starch,” Harris told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.”

No injuries were reported.
