A mother turned her son into Clayton County police after he shot his girlfriend in the head and killed her, authorities said Monday.

Alassan Cessay, 23, of Jonesboro, is charged with malice murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime in connection with the unidentified woman’s Sept. 6 death.

Ceesay and his girlfriend got into an argument at a home in the 1800 block of Magnolia Circle, according to a statement.

When the woman threw water on Ceesay, the argument turned deadly, police said.

According to investigators, Ceesay got a handgun and shot the girlfriend. He then called his mother and drove to her house, police said.

Ceesay’s mother called 911 and reported the shooting. When officers went to the Magnolia Circle home, the girlfriend was found dead.

Police arrested Ceesay at his mother’s home without incident. He was booked into the Clayton County Jail, where he remains with no bond.
