A Sandy Springs police officer was injured after her parked patrol car was hit on I-285 early Friday morning.

The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries shortly after midnight, according to a Facebook post by the agency. Her patrol car was parked on the westbound shoulder of I-285 near Roswell Road with its lights on.

According to the initial investigation, he was texting while driving and told responding officers he did not see the police car or lights.

The officer was released from the hospital several hours after the accident.

The Sandy Springs police department used the post as a reminder about the state’s move-over law.

“Every time there is an emergency vehicle with its emergency equipment activated, it is the law to slow down and move over. In the event that you cannot move over due to heavy traffic, you must slow down and carefully pass the emergency vehicle,” the agency posted.
