A DeKalb County woman was allegedly under the influence of drugs Wednesday when she crashed into a Sandy Springs patrol car, pushing it more than 100 feet and injuring an officer, police said Thursday.
Tamika Shelia Woodson, 39, of Lithonia, was charged with failure to maintain lane, too fast for conditions and DUI-drugs following the Wednesday afternoon crash, according to Sandy Springs police Capt. Steve Rose. Details about the type of drugs allegedly involved were not released.
Officer Mike Stark was in the right emergency lane on the southbound side of Ga. 400 at Northridge Road while working a separate wreck when his car was hit from behind, Rose said. Around 4 p.m., a driver left the roadway and crossed into the emergency lane, striking Stark’s patrol car.
“It is estimated the impact pushed the officer’s car in excess of 100 feet from a standstill position,” Rose said in an emailed statement Thursday.
Both Stark and Woodson were transported to North Fulton Hospital, where both were treated for non-life threatening injuries Rose said. Stark was released late Wednesday.
The Georgia State Patrol investigated the wreck and charged Woodson after her release from the hospital, Rose said.
