A College Park man accused in an August homicide has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

John Blackmon, 26, was found guilty Tuesday of felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and weapons offenses in connection with the death of 19-year-old Timothy Blalock and the wounding of 24-year-old Timothy Ghilden. He was sentenced to life plus 60 years, according to a news release today from the office of Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr.

On Aug. 25, police responded to a scene in the parking lot of a College Park tattoo parlor on Old National Highway. Blalock’s body was found, with multiple gunshot wounds, in the passenger seat of a Chevy Impala, according to the release. Ghilden had been shot in the arm and hand, but was able to make it to the business for help.

Witnesses told police that Blackmon, known as “Hot Boy,” was in the rear of an SUV when he opened fire on the two men. Blackmon was arrested on two days later after witnesses pick him out of a photo lineup.

An investigation into the shooting concluded Blackmon was after Ghilden because of a dispute dating back several weeks.
