A Cobb County woman died early Friday morning after she drove the wrong way on I-75 and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer, officials said.

Chassity Hogan, 30, of Mableton, was identified as the driver of a white 2014 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-75, Cobb police said in a news release. Hogan was pronounced dead at the scene, but the truck driver was not hurt.

Officers were called to the I-75 and I-285 interchange just before 3 a.m., police said. The Elantra had just left I-75 North and was traveling the wrong way down the on-ramp from I-285. The sedan hit the tractor-trailer, a blue 2017 Volvo, head-on and was pushed into the guardrail on the ramp’s shoulder.

The crash caused lane closures at one of metro Atlanta’s busiest highway interchanges for hours early Friday morning, but all lanes were cleared before 7 a.m., the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.

No further details have been released about the circumstances around the crash, and authorities have not shared any explanation for why Hogan was driving the wrong way on the interstate. Police do not expect any charges to be filed.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb police department’s selective traffic enforcement program unit at 770-499-3987.
