Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren was in famous hands while undergoing back surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent for CNN, was among the doctors treating Warren, who was injured last week in a wreck on I-75, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

Warren was released from the hospital Wednesday, six days after he was involved in the wreck. He underwent back surgery Monday to a repair a fractured vertebrae, the sheriff’s office said.

Dr. Griffin Baum, Dr. Matthew Gary and Gupta were among those who treated Warren, the sheriff’s wife said.

“The care Neil has received at Grady has been excellent,” the sheriff’s wife, Penny Warren, said in an emailed statement. “The doctors, nurses and other staff have been wonderful and have gone out of their way to make Neil comfortable.”

Warren is expected to recover at home for several weeks, but is communicating regularly with his command staff, the sheriff’s office said.
