Clayton County police are investigating a shooting Sunday afternoon that left a 29-year-old man dead.

Just after 1 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports of a person shot in the 9100 block of Fairway Court, according to Clayton County police Sgt. Kevin Hughes.

“While officers were responding to the area, a description of a vehicle leaving the area of the shooting was given,” Hughes said. “One officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and made an investigative stop.”

The officer approached the vehicle and noticed a man in the back seat with a gunshot wound.

Hughes said the wounded man, Travis Tate, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not announced any arrests in the incident.
