A 5-year-old girl found wandering in a neighborhood in Norcross early Sunday was returned to her family hours later, according to Gwinnett County Police Department.

The girl was found just before 3:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Heritage Valley Road, according to police spokesman Corporal Troy Tobler. The Hispanic child said the door at the home where she was staying was open and she walked out, but provided limited additional information in English or Spanish. She was not able to provide the location of the home, the spokesman said. The Department of Children and Family Services was called to assist with the incident.

Around 7:30 a.m., a family member called police and said the child had been spending the night with a relative when she wandered off.

Tobler reported just after 10 a.m. that the child had been returned safely to her mother and called the matter an unfortunate circumstances rather than anything criminal. “Therefore, no charges are pending,” the spokesman said.
