A DeKalb County man was killed over the weekend in Alabama while working with a tree company.

Kevin Eugene Gates, 48, of Chamblee, was working along U.S. 78 outside of Birmingham when he was hit by a driver that went through a road block, police in Adamsville, Ala., said Monday.

Gates was part of a crew picking up branches when the driver, whose name was not released, drove into a lane blocked with orange cones and a flagman, according to police. Gates died at the scene.

Charges are expected in the wreck, which remains under investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected.
