A vehicle carrying five people flipped off a Texas bridge and fell 40 feet onto a river embankment Monday afternoon, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The driver and four passengers were lifted from the Brazos River after a Toyota SUV careened off the Grand Parkway at the Stavinoha Bridge, the television station reported.
Sugar Land Police Department spokesman Doug Adolph said the vehicle hit a guardrail after leaving the road and landed on the embankment, the Chronicle reported. The vehicle did not land in the river, Adolph said.
All five people were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
"The car dropped at least 40 feet," Adolph told the Chronicle. "There were five people in the Toyota SUV. They could not walk out of the embankment on their own. It was that steep. We had to pull them back up."
