A Marietta man and his wife escaped injury early Tuesday when an out-of-control car came careening into their home.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. on Sawmill Road, in a neighborhood off Macland Road.

“My wife was awake, I was sleeping, and we heard tires screeching and the car ended up in the house,” Bill Beaudin told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “So we grabbed a flashlight and ran outside and the car was still stuck completely in the house.”

Beaudin, who has lived in the home for 19 years, said there was no one inside the Chevrolet Cavalier, and police told him “they suspect the person bailed when he lost control of it.”

The crash “sounded like a bomb going off,” Beaudin said. “I thought there would be a car wrapped around a tree when I ran outside, but it was inside our house, still running.”

He said the impact broke water pipes, “so I had to run and shut the water off.”

Beaudin said police checked the tag number on the car and found that it belonged to a woman who lives nearby.

“They went over to her house and knocked on her door and said, ‘your car’s been in an accident,’ and she said, ‘my car…my car’s gone!’ and she reported it stolen at that time,” Beaudin said. “She said she left her keys in her car.”
