Waffle House employee shot during attempted robbery; shooter on run

Only Channel 2 Action News was there when the arrest happened.

An employee at a DeKalb County Waffle House was shot early Monday morning as an assailant tried to rob the restaurant, officials said.

A man walked into the Waffle House in the 1100 block of Columbia Drive and demanded money, DeKalb County police Sgt. J.D. Spencer said in a statement.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, and his condition is unknown, police said.

The alleged shooter left in a vehicle with an unknown amount of money taken from the Waffle House.

Channel 2 Action News reported that a possible witness was taken into custody by police while explaining what he saw around 4 p.m.

A gun was found in his vehicle during a search after he was put in handcuffs, Channel 2 reported. Police haven’t said whether the man is a possible assailant, but authorities told the news station the shooter is still on the loose.
