Tamar Braxton reportedly transferred to mental health facility after hospitalization

Sources say the singer is 'awake and communicating'

Things to know about singer and TV personality Tamar Braxton.

After a weekend hospitalized due to an overdose, Tamar Braxton is reportedly alert and resting at a mental health facility as of Tuesday morning.

The 43-year-old singer was rushed to an LA-area hospital after she was found unresponsive Thursday night at the Ritz Carlton Residences in downtown Los Angeles, The Blast first reported. Sources say Braxton overdosed on pills and alcohol.

On Tuesday, a source told E! News that the “Love and War” singer was transferred from the hospital to a mental health care hospital.

“Tamar is not out of the woods by any means. Doctors are still keeping a very close eye on her for her safety,” the source told the entertainment news site. “Tamar has been committed to working on her mental health for some time, but she experienced some setbacks during the last year, finding quarantine to be particularly difficult.”

Last week, her boyfriend David Adefeso, who was staying with her at the hotel, told police that she had been upset earlier Thursday and had threatened suicide, according to TMZ. Law enforcement sources say the “Braxton Family Values” star did not leave a note, but they also described the cause of her hospitalization as a “possible suicide attempt,” according to TMZ.

The source and the Braxton family told E! News that despite the suicide attempt being widely reported, Adefeso now tells the family he no longer thinks the overdose was a suicide attempt, with a source revealing that “David does not believe that she was trying to kill herself, despite experiencing some rough times in quarantine.”

On Friday, friend and fellow reality television star NeNe Leakes posted on Instagram about attempting to console Braxton before she was hospitalized. Posting a side-by-side photo of herself and Braxton, the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” veteran said she had spoken with Braxton and Adefeso and asked her followers to pray for her friend.

“A lot of strong people cry in the dark and hurt alone.I talk to Tamar often! Spoke to her yesterday and tried to pull her thru this moment. Spoke to her and David today! I say that to say this...check on your strong friends! Try not to judge so much! know that there are people being treated wrong for real and It’s really painful. I know Tamar is gonna get thru this but please pray for her strength.”

Braxton, the youngest in a family of singers, shot to fame when her family’s show, starring music legend Toni Braxton, began airing on We tv in 2011. Tamar Braxton quickly became a fan favorite due to her outspokenness and unfiltered stance that she deserved the same musical success as her celebrated, older sister. She would go on to aspire to that goal by putting out hit records including “Love and War” and receiving several Grammy nominations, with the latest being for her song “If I Don’t Have You” in 2016. In 2019, she was the winner on reality show “Celebrity Big Brother.”

Braxton also has a 7-year-old son, Logan, who is reportedly spending time with his father and Braxton’s ex-husband Vincent Herbert, according to family sources.

In a statement to People on Friday, a spokesperson for WE tv said: “Tamar Braxton has been part of the WE tv family for nearly a decade. We are keeping her and her family in our thoughts and prayers and joining with her fans sending strength and healing at this difficult time.”

On Twitter, several fans shared their well wishes Friday afternoon for a speedy recovery. One very famous fan, Oscar winner Viola Davis, sent warm words out on Twitter to Tamar.

“Praying for Tamar Braxton. Mental Health has got to be a part of our “wokeness”. There is strength in vulnerability. You matter Miss Tamar Braxton. Praying for you, your beautiful son and family.”

Earlier this week, Braxton, who is currently starring on VH1′s “To Catch a Beautician,” publicly complained about how her family was cut short of the financial gain of another famous reality TV family – the Kardashians. Her comments on Twitter drew attention from fans, with many pointing to the Braxtons, who are Black, being shortchanged due to their race.

“I 100 percent wrote the theme song... where is the coin,” she wrote about the “Braxton Family Values” theme song. “...our show is on Netflix.... where is the coin... 10 years on The air... we make 75 percent LESS than the kardashians.”

There has been no comment from Braxton’s representatives about her hospitalization.
