Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead Monday in DeKalb County, authorities said.

When police responded to a person shot call in the 3600 block of Loveless Drive around 3:20 p.m., they found 52-year-old Desiderio Echeverria lying on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen, authorities said.

Echeverria’s wife said she hid in a closet upstairs when she heard the shooting, an incident report stated.

A witness told police a man initially came to the house a half-hour before the shooting and asked if Echeverria had any work for him, to which Echeverria replied no. The man left, only to return later with another man. The witness said he heard gunshots and saw the two men run away from the house.

According to the report, a neighbor saw the men get into a white sedan and drive toward Bouldercrest Road.

Authorities haven’t released information about the suspects.

The investigation is ongoing.
