Platinum-selling rapper Nicki Minaj announced Monday that she and her husband Kenneth Petty are expecting their first child.

Minaj, 37, married Petty last year. The two knew each other from their high school years of dating in Queens, New York. They reunited in 2018. On her Instagram account Monday, Minaj, whose real name is Onika Maraj-Petty, told her millions of fans of her pregnancy with a striking photo of herself and a one-word caption: “Preggers.”

In two follow-up posts, the New York rapper and actress gave more insight into her announcement by sharing more photos, and in one post writing: “Love. Marriage. Baby carriage. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes.”

Fans expressed elation that the “Anaconda” lyricist would soon be a mom.

Before reconnecting with Petty, Minaj was in a long-term relationship with fellow rapper Meek Mill. As the congratulations came in via Twitter, many took the announcement as an opportunity to poke fun at what Meek Mill’s reaction might be Monday.
